New Year, New Faves!
Happy 2019, babes!
I’ve taken a few weeks off the blog, but it’s time to get back to business! I wanted to share some of my favorite products with you that I’ve invested in over the last few weeks!
Let’s talk a little bit of hair for a second. I’ve seen these $150-$250 wands all over social media, and I just can’t justify spending that on a curling iron that doesn’t have impressive reviews. I did some research and landed on this Conair 1” curling iron. Here’s the thing. The size of curls that are “on trend” varies from season to season. I have a few different curling irons that are collecting dust, and I wasn’t about to invest in another appliance I just needed to wipe down every month. I’ve had this curling iron for about 2 months. It heats up in about a minute, has a knob that allows me to adjust temperature, and a “turbo” mode for a burst of heat. Best part? It’s UNDER $15!
While we’re talking about hair, let’s talk about our skin. The dry Utah weather has been ravaging my skin. I’ve had to step it up in the exfoliation department, and this Facial Resurfacer has been a life-saver. Or a skin-saver? Either way, it’s amazing. The Facial Resurfacer uses a blend of finely ground volcanic ash from an island called Vanuatu, along with Nangai Oil- a triglyceride-rich facial oil. Used together, they exfoliate and moisturize your skin all in one! The jar is $50, and I’ve averaged about 6 months with mine!
Have you watched Marie Kondo’s new show on Netflix? I have! About 6 months after we bought our house, I was searching for new Audible books, and found her book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I got about 2 chapters in, and while I finished listening to the book, I started to tackle various rooms of my house. I will admit, I haven’t been great at keeping up on the tidying all the time, but I have gotten a lot better at letting go of things that I was keeping just “in case” I needed them some day. I haven’t missed a single article of clothing or knick knack around the house that I’ve gotten rid of. In fact, I couldn’t even tell you what most of them are. What does this have to do with my new fave things? Storage. Odds are, even after tidying up, you’ll have some off-season clothing or shoes that might not have a place in your closet. I do. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I’ve been the same size (give or take 15 lbs) since 7th grade, so I keep a lot of clothing and shoes to re-wear season after season. I needed a place to store them that wouldn’t crush the clothing/shoes (vacuum bags are cool in theory, but I hate what they do to my stuff!) and that’s when I found these Cedar under-bed storage containers from the container store. Right now, they’re $15 off! They have pieces of cedar in the container that helps keep clothes fresh, deters pests and they fit quite a bit of stuff! One of my goals this year is to be a “tupperware style plastic bin” free home, and this was an easy first step!
I’m not sure if you frequent Target as much as I do, but when the Hearth and Home collection was introduced to me, I was instantly in love. I have a (maybe weird) thing where I get new bedding every year. Starting in 2019, I’m getting rid of all my old bedding when I get the new ones. (You do not want to see my linen closet, y’all!) So when I found this bedding set, I was sold. I love the neutral color scheme, I love the texture of the fabric, and I love that it will go with pretty much everything. They have it in grey and in cream, and it’ll be the perfect transitional bedding as we slowly remodel our home.
Why are keto strips on this list? Because I’m getting my ass in gear when it comes to my diet/nutrition this year. I have an autoimmune disease that causes a lot of inflammation in my body, and my rheumatologist has recommended a low carb diet. Good thing “Keto” is suuuuper popular. Only thing is, actually staying in ketosis isn’t always straightforward. If you eat too much protein, not enough fats or too many carbs, your body will be kicked out of ketosis and go back to consuming glucose for energy. Then, you run the risk of gaining weight due to consuming large amounts of fat and carbohydrates. That’s where these keto strips come in. You can test your urine in the morning and figure out what level of ketosis you’re in. I just started using these, and so far, so good. Not to say the keto is going so good (damn you, Red Lobster biscuits from Sunday dinner last week!) but I’m able to see how well I’m sticking to the meal plan.
Last but certainly not least on this list, good old Levis. I found this 721 High Rise denim and haven’t looked back. Nor will I ever. They have the BEST FIT of any pair of Levi’s I’ve ever owned. They’re super stretchy, slimming and come in a ton of lengths and washes. I have purchased multiple pairs from Amazon in different washes and I’m obsessed with every single one.
So that’s it. My little list of new faves for January! I would love to hear about the things you’re obsessing over! Drop them in the comments so I can check it out!
